Hook, Line, and Sinker! Creative Cards with Hero Arts Packed with Love
Hello everyone! I am so excited to share my latest creations using the Packed with Love Collection from Hero Arts. This collection is absolutely charming, featuring whimsical sardine tins and ocean-inspired elements that bring a playful touch to handmade cards. Iโve designed three different cards ranging from realistic 3D effects to interactive sliders and scenic sea views!
"O-Fish-ally Old" Sardine Tin Card
For the first card, I wanted to create a realistic yet colorful sardine tin effect.
The Background: I started with a Waterfall cardstock and embossed it using the Spellbinders Cast Away 3D Embossing Folder. To make the rope texture pop, I lightly blended Emerald Green ink over the raised areas with a blending brush.
The Sardines: I die-cut three fish from white cardstock and gave them a soft glow by blending pink and emerald green inks before tucking them inside the tin.
The Tin & Cover: Using the Hero Arts Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock, I die-cut the main tin frame and the cover with the Big Mouth Sardine Tin Die. For the inside of the tin, I used Ocean Side cardstock as the base.
The Realistic Lid: To create the lid, I die-cut blush cardstock and layered a wave element on top (created with the Hero Arts Making Waves Die Set and ink blending). I then curved the paper to make it look like it was being peeled back, revealing the gold metallic cardstock on the underside, and attached the pull-tab handle.
Finishing Touches: I stamped the sentiment from the Hero Arts Well Preserved Stamp & Cut Set using an ombre effect with two ink colors. I also added the circular “Holy Mackerel” label and a tiny fish die-cut from silver metallic cardstock to complete the authentic tin look.
Interactive "Better Together" Slider Card
The second card in this series is an interactive slider card! I used a clever mechanism to make the tin cover slide open, revealing the cute sardines hiding inside.
The Bubbling Background: I started with Cascade cardstock and stamped it with the Hero Arts Bubbles Bold Prints Cling Stamp using watermark ink. I then applied white embossing powder and heat-set it. To create depth, I blended Indigo and Nautical inks over the embossed bubbles for a deep-sea effect.
The Slider Mechanism: To create the sliding action, I used the Hero Arts Big Mouth Slider Etched Dies (which is also available in the Packed with Love Big Mouth Die Bundle). I die-cut the slider base three times and layered them together for extra durability and smooth movement.
The Tin Lid (Letterpress): The sliding lid was created using the Hero Arts Glad We’re Tight Letterpress + Foil Registration Set. I pressed the sentiment, waves, and corner designs in three separate steps to get a clean, professional look.
The Sardines & Details: I die-cut the fish from white cardstock and added a touch of ink blending for dimension. The tin frame and the pull-tab handle were die-cut from silver metallic cardstock to give it a realistic finish.
Assembly: I layered the Indigo cardstock base, followed by the 3-layer slider mechanism frame, placed the lid on top, and finished by securing the bubble-embossed cover.
Carpe Pisci" Scenic Ocean Card
The final card features a beautiful layered ocean scene with a little sailboat and a school of fish.
The Ocean Layers: I created the waves using the Hero Arts Making Waves Die Set. I layered Windy cardstock as the base, followed by Breeze and Cosmic Sky cardstock for the waves, with Seaside cardstock at the very bottom behind the fish.
The Boat & Fish: The sailboat was die-cut from white and Poppy cardstock using the Big Mouth Sardine Tin Die Set. I die-cut the little fish from Celestial ColorWheel Cardstock, blended them with Indigo and Nautical inks, and added highlights with a white gel pen.
The Sentiment: I stamped the “Carpe Pisci” banner from the Well Preserved Stamp & Cut Set using Nautical ink, colored it lightly with markers, and popped it up with foam stickers for dimension.
