Autumn in Kyoto Collection Cards with Spellbinders
Hello, crafty friends!
Today I’m sharing four fall cards I made with October’s Autumn in Kyoto Collection by Alex Syberia Designs from Spellbinders. I loved this collection so much β the sweet Kokeshi dolls, the red maple leaves, and the pretty Kyoto scene all feel so warm and cozy. Each card uses the collection in a different way, and I hope you enjoy them!
Thank You Card
Background: I cut a piece of white cardstock to A2 size and pressed the Scenic Kyoto plate from October’s Autumn in Kyoto Press + Foil & Stencil Bundle by Alex Syberia Designs with BetterPress Black Ink.Β
- Then I colored the whole scene by layering the coordinating stencils one by one in order β warm reds, oranges, and golds for the trees and hills, and a soft blue for the sky and the little stream. I adhered the finished panel to my card base.
Frame:
I die-cut Cranberry cardstock with the Postage Edge Rectangles Etched Dies and layered it over the colored image. It makes a pretty frame, and the scene looks just like a picture postcard from Kyoto.
Sentiment:
I black hot-foiled the “THANK YOU” sentiment from the Blossoms & Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set from the Spring in Kyoto Collection onto white cardstock, die-cut it with the coordinating banner die, and adhered it vertically over the left side of the scene.
Miss You Card
Background:
I embossed a piece of white cardstock with October’s Shoji Screen 3D Embossing Folder by Alex Syberia Designs. To make the Japanese door frame, I die-cut Fawn cardstock with the Nesting Rectangle Infinity Dies from Hero Arts.
Then I cut more Fawn cardstock into thin 1/8-inch strips, lined them up with the straight lines of the embossed pattern, and adhered them on top to make the door lattice. It really looks like a little shoji screen!

Focal Image:
I black hot-foiled one of the Autumn Kokeshi dolls from October’s Autumn in Kyoto Press + Foil Plate & Die Set, colored her with markers β a teal kimono with white and pink flowers and a big yellow bow β die-cut her, and adhered her with foam adhesive.
- Across the top, I added the Japanese Maple Branch Die: I watercolored the leaves in reds, pinks, and orange first, then die-cut them, so each leaf has soft, pretty color. This branch die is not sold separately β it is only included in October’s Autumn in Kyoto Curated Bundle by Alex Syberia Designs.
Sentiment:
Just like the first card, I black hot-foiled the “MISS YOU” sentiment from the Blossoms & Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set from the Spring in Kyoto Collection, die-cut it, and adhered it vertically on the left side.
Hello & Big Hugs Card
Background:
I die-cut Cranberry cardstock with October’s Ripple Rectangle Frames Etched Dies by Simon Hurley to make the card base itself.
love this wavy frame shape β the bright red makes the two dolls stand out right away.
Focal Images:
I built both dolls with October’s Autumn Kokeshi Dolls Stamp & Die Set by Alex Syberia Designs. For the bob-haired doll, I stamped one of the pattern stamps from the set onto Lavender cardstock to make her kimono pattern, die-cut her waistband from Violet cardstock, and made her little purse and hair bow from Tutu cardstock.
For the doll next to her, I stamped a different pattern onto Waterfall cardstock for her kimono, made her waistband and bow from Beeswax cardstock, and her cute glasses from Poppy cardstock. I adhered both dolls with foam adhesive. Changing the patterns, hair, and accessories for each doll is so fun!
Sentiment:
I gold hot-foiled the “HELLO & BIG HUGS” sentiment from the Signature Sentiments Press + Foil Plate & Die Set, die-cut it into a banner, and adhered it under the dolls.
Grateful for You Card
Background:
This card is a fall view seen through a paper window, like my Fall Adventures window card. I die-cut a circle window in the card front and adhered vellum cardstock behind it, so the scene inside shows through softly.
To make the frame, I placed two circle dies together on Fawn cardstock and die-cut a ring, then adhered it over the window. I die-cut the Japanese Maple Branch and adhered it across the top of the window.
Focal Image:
I black hot-foiled the girl with the umbrella from October’s Autumn in Kyoto Press + Foil Plate & Die Set, colored her with markers β a teal umbrella and a purple floral kimono β and die-cut her. I love how she is looking out at the soft fall view through the window.
Sentiment:
Just like the third card, I gold hot-foiled the “GRATEFUL FOR YOU” sentiment from the Signature Sentiments Press + Foil Plate & Die Set, die-cut it, and adhered it with foam adhesive.
Inside:
- Here is the little surprise! I matte gold hot-foiled the Scenic Kyoto Press + Foil Plate onto white cardstock, colored it with the coordinating stencils, and adhered it inside the card. When the card is closed, you see this pretty scene softly through the vellum window, and when you open it, the whole Kyoto fall scene is there.
Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope these cards give you a little fall inspiration!
Happy Crafting,
Heejung
