Tote-Ally Thoughtful: A Birthday Gift Card Holder

Hello, everyone! For the final card in my Hero Arts Tote-Ally Awesome Collection series, I wanted to create something both beautiful and functional. This project is a perfect birthday card and a stylish gift card holder all in one, making it a wonderful way to celebrate someone special!

  • Creating the Bold Base I chose Oceanside cardstock for my card base. This deep, rich teal provides a stunning contrast and makes the vibrant colors of the tote bag really stand out.
  • Designing a Custom Patterned Tote The tote bag was die-cut using the Tote Bag Die from Alabaster cardstock. To give the bag a unique, designer look, I used the Totes the Best Stamp & Cut set. I combined four different patterns with four bright ink colors to create a playful, tiled surface. For the front pocket, I stamped the “May All Your Wishes Come True” sentiment in a soft pink ink—the perfect message for a birthday!

Embossed Charms & Details For the accessories, I turned to the Tiny Treasure stamp and die set. I used gold heat embossing for the keychain and charms—a smiling flower and a heart—then colored them with markers to coordinate with the bag’s patterns. These little details add so much shine and personality!

Engineering the Gift Card Holder To make the bag functional as a gift card holder, I applied foam tape only around the sides and bottom edges of the tote bag die-cut. This leaves the top open, creating a perfect slot to tuck in a birthday treat, like a Starbucks card, for the recipient to discover.

Lastly, I love how this design combines a handmade birthday wish with a practical gift-giving idea. It’s a wonderful, personalized way to make someone’s big day even more special!

Happy Crafting! Heejung Hunsberger
