Two Birthday Cake Cards with One Hot Birthday | Spellbinders November Large Die Club
Hello, crafty friends!
Two birthday cake cards, made with just one die set! The star of both cards is One Hot Birthday, the November Large Die of the Month from Spellbinders. One cake is sweet and pretty in pink, and the other one is completely on fire — in the funniest way.
Also joining the party are Congratulations! You’re Older, the November Clear Stamp & Die of the Month, and Frosted Finish, the November 3D Embossing Folder of the Month. The full step-by-step video tutorial for both cards is on the HMADE Studio YouTube channel.
Flaming Chocolate Cake Card
Background:
The card starts with a plain white panel. One corner is torn on the diagonal with a tearing ruler, leaving a rough, deckled edge. The torn edge is then inked generously with Tim Holtz Distress Vintage Photo ink until the corner looks nicely burnt. A handy tip: without a tearing ruler, the paper can be torn slowly by hand, a little at a time, for the same rough edge.
Focal Images:
The big flame is built from three flame layers die-cut from white, Chiffon, and Carrot cardstock. Yellow, orange, and red inks are blended over the layers, and a white gel pen adds little highlights, so the flame looks bright and full of movement. The cake body is cut from Truffle cardstock, and the frosting is Blush cardstock shaded with Altenew Cotton Candy and Altenew Strawberry inks. White scalloped and loop borders finish the cake, with a slice of vanilla cake showing at the side. One more tip: glue that squeezes out from under the frosting wipes away cleanly with a silicone tool. Eight candles in Waterfall cardstock stand on top of the cake, with the big flame placed right behind them, and the whole cake sits on a gray plate.
Sentiment:
The sentiment is the funny part! ‘MAKE A WISH, hurry!’ comes from Congratulations! You’re Older, the November Clear Stamp & Die of the Month. The words are stamped in black ink, heat-embossed with clear embossing powder for a shiny finish, die-cut with the coordinating die, and placed right over the candles — perfect for a cake that is clearly on fire.
Sweet Pink Cake Card
Background:
A panel of Fern cardstock makes the background. The deep green is clean and simple, and it makes the soft pink cake stand out beautifully.
Focal Images:
The pink cake gets its yummy texture from Frosted Finish, the November 3D Embossing Folder of the Month. Running the Blush cardstock through the folder gives the cake a bumpy, frosted finish, and shading with Altenew Cotton Candy and Altenew Strawberry inks adds soft depth. The cake has a cut slice with yellow layers inside, white scalloped and loop borders, and it sits on a mint plate. Seven slim candles in Waterfall and Blush stand on top. And here is the favorite trick of this card: the tiny flames are the little oval pieces left over from the loop die cuts! Instead of throwing them away, the ovals are colored with markers in yellow and orange and glued on top of the candles. The finished cake is popped up with foam tape for dimension.
Sentiment:
‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’ also comes from Congratulations! You’re Older, the November Clear Stamp & Die of the Month. The words are stamped at the bottom of the Fern panel with VersaMark ink and heat-embossed in white, so the greeting stays soft and clean under the cake.
Two very different birthday cards from one die set — one sweet, one on fire! Thank you so much for stopping by today. See you in the next project!
