Fresh and Sweet Summer Vibes with the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero July Kit

Happy July! It is officially the heat of summer, and what better way to beat the heat than with a fresh, citrusy project? Today, I am thrilled to share a bright and cheerful card featuring the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero July Kit.

The main kit comes packed with amazing goodies, including the gorgeous When Life Gives You Lemons Stamp & Cut set. While the expanded Super Hero version is completely sold out, I am so glad I could bring this sunny, cozy patio scene to life using the main monthly kit. It transports you straight to a place where you can sit back and enjoy some freshly squeezed lemonade!

Here is how this beautiful summer scene came together:

  • Creating the Soft Background: I started with a white cardstock panel and placed masking tape along the bottom to separate the grass line from the building wall. Using a blending brush, I softly colored the wall background with Altenew Strawberry ink for a warm, sun-kissed stucco look.

  • My Fussy-Cutting Choice (Two Ways to Build the Scene): When building a detailed scene like this, you generally have two choices. You can stamp the window, chairs, and table directly onto the background, mask them off with sticky notes, and blend ink over them. Alternatively, you can ink-blend the entire background first, then stamp, color, and fussy-cut the images separately before adhering them. I chose the second method because it bypasses the tedious process of cutting out mask templates!

Seamlessly Adhering Elements: To make sure the fussy-cut pieces looked seamless and natural against the background, I carefully cut right along the outer edge of the black stamped lines. For tricky open areasβ€”like the spaces under the chair legs and behind the backrestsβ€”I colored them in with markers that closely matched the background ink blend. This trick completely hides the white cardstock core and makes everything look integrated.

Adding Dimension with a Lemon Tree: To give the card some gorgeous physical dimension, I die-cut multiple layers of the lemon tree and stacked them together. This extra lift makes the tree pop off the page!

Finishing Touches: The lemon basket and other scene elements were fussy-cut just like the furniture and placed into the scene. To complete the project, I stamped the sweet sentiment perfectly in crisp black ink at the top.

I absolute love how this card turned outβ€”it feels just like a relaxing summer afternoon captured on paper! If you missed out on the Super Hero kit, don’t worry, because the main My Monthly Hero July Kit still has everything you need to create your own beautiful, citrusy scenes. Grab your favorite markers, put on some music, and have fun building your own little backyard oasis.
