Retro Vibes: A Simple Vintage Suitcase Card

Hello everyone! Sometimes a clean and simple design is all you need to make a statement. Today’s card features the Retro Suitcase and Sentiments Stamp & Die Set by Sheri Ballantyne, part of the We All Have Baggage Collection. This vintage-inspired suitcase is perfect for sending a supportive message to a friend.

  • Prepare the Base: Use Seaside Cardstock for the card base. Before stamping, it’s helpful to place the die-cut suitcase on the base to determine exactly where the sentiment should go.

 

  • Stamping the Sentiment: Once you have the placement, stamp the “IT’S OK! WE’VE ALL GOT BAGGAGE” sentiment in black ink at the bottom center of the card.

  • Die-Cutting the Suitcase:

    • For the main body of the suitcase, use Carrot Cardstock.

    • For the leather straps and handle, use Terra Cotta Cardstock.

    • Pro Tip: To give the suitcase a weathered, “well-traveled” look, lightly ink the edges of the Carrot cardstock with an orange ink that mimics the deeper Terra Cotta tone.

  • Add Hardware & Details: Die-cut the corner protectors and buckles using a combination of Gold Metallic Cardstock and Truffle Cardstock. This adds a realistic touch of metal and worn leather.

  • Decorate with “Stickers”: Using the coordinating stamps from the same set, stamp various travel icons (like the sun, heart, and yin-yang) in colorful inks. Die-cut these “stickers” and adhere them to the suitcase to give it personality and charm.

 

  • Assembly: Adhere the finished suitcase to the center of your card base using foam adhesive for a bit of dimension.
