Happy Summer Cabins: A Treehouse Adventure

Welcome to the cozy world of our forest friends! Today, I’m sharing a card that captures three playful critters enjoying their happy summer in their wooden “cabins.” By using the Timeless Trees Collection and several sets from the Summer Camp Collection, I built a dimensional tree scene where a fox, a raccoon, and a squirrel are all packed and ready for an adventure. The realistic wood texture really brings this card to life!

Crafting the Realistic Bark: I started with Fawn cardstock and used a circle die to cut three “hollows” for our friends. Then, I embossed the panel using the Bark 3D Embossing Folder from the Timeless Trees Collection. To add depth and realism, I carefully colored the raised texture with Altenew Raw Amber Fresh Dye Ink.

  • Creating the Backdrop: I placed a black cardstock panel behind the embossed layer to create a dark “inside” for the tree hollows. I then attached the embossed panel using foam stickers for significant dimensions.

  • The Forest Trio: I die-cut the adorable fox, raccoon, and squirrel using the Trailside Trio and Woodland Trio etched dies by Allison Frazier. I tucked them into their respective hollows, making it look like they are peeking out to say hello!

  • The Accessories: To show they are ready for a trip, I gave the raccoon a cute backpack from the Camp Days die set.

  • The Sentiment Signs: I used the signpost dies from the Trails End set, coloring them with a brush to match the wooden texture of the tree. I then added the “HAPPY SUMMER CABINS” sentiment to complete the forest lodge vibe.

I had so much fun building this little neighborhood in a tree! The combination of the deep 3D embossing and the playful critters creates such a warm, summery feeling. I hope this project inspires you to look for the “happy cabins” in your own backyard. See you in the next post!
