April BetterPress & Hot Foil Club: Chalkboard-Style Seed Co. Card
Hello, crafty friends! Of all the projects I’ve created with this month’s club kits, I have to admit—this one is my absolute favorite! There’s something so striking about the high contrast of white on black, and this month’s April 2026 BetterPress & Hot Foil Club (Seed Co. Border) was perfect for achieving that look.
To create the background, I used Raven cardstock (black) and hot foiled the Seed Co. Border plate using opaque white hot foil. Doesn’t it look just like a hand-drawn chalkboard? It provides such an elegant and nostalgic frame for the central garden theme. For the sentiment, I used the same set but flipped the colors—hot foiling in black on white cardstock. I love using hot foil for sentiments because it’s much crisper and more solid than traditional inking.
The focal point features a beet and a radish. The beet was die-cut from the April Stitching Die (Rooting For You), and the radish is from the April Large Die of the Month (Market Tote). To give them a realistic, plump look, I added ink blending to the edges with a blending brush and drew in highlights using a white gel pen. These small details really bring the vegetables to life!
Chalkboard Background: Use the Seed Co. Border plate to hot foil the ornate frame onto Raven black cardstock using white foil.
Vegetable Die-Cutting: Die-cut the beet (Stitching Die set) and the radish (Large Die set).
Realistic Coloring: Use blending brushes to add depth to the vegetables. Use a white gel pen to add small highlight strokes for a fresh-picked look.
Sentiment: Hot foil the sentiment in black onto white cardstock. Use the coordinating die to cut it out and pop it up with foam tape.
Assembly: Arrange the beet and radish in the center of the chalkboard frame.
Finishing Touches: Add a few white enamel dots around the vegetables to balance the design and add a touch of gloss.
I truly love how this card turned out. It feels sophisticated yet playful, and that chalkboard effect is something I definitely want to try again! I hope this inspires you to try hot foiling on dark cardstock for your next project.
Happy Crafting, Heejung

I completely agree, the black and white really makes the seed design pop. It’s a beautiful and classic combination!
