Sip Into Summerween with a Refreshing Ghost Drink Card!
Hi friends! Welcome back to my blog! Today, I’m sharing another fun project using the Hero Arts Summerween Collection.
When working with busy or small-patterned backgrounds, a small focal image can easily get lost. So today, I’m sharing a quick design tip on how to create a clean window frame that lets your main element shine while keeping a soft, cool aesthetic!
Here is how I created this refreshing Summerween card:
Stenciling & Die-Cutting the Frame:
I stenciled a cool, breezy blue floral background using the Hero Arts Flower Power Layering Stencil Set. To create a spotlight frame for my main image, I die-cut an oval window right out of the center of the stenciled panel.
Card Base & Heat Embossed Sentiment:
I used Celestial cardstock for my card base, placing it underneath the stenciled oval frame. On the exposed Celestial cardstock inside the window, I heat embossed the sentiment “it’s a ghoul summer” from the Ghoul Summer Stamp Set using white embossing powder for a crisp, bright look.
Coloring & Focal Image Tip:
I stamped the adorable ghost drink image from the same Ghoul Summer Stamp Set, colored it with alcohol markers, and die-cut it out.
Pro Crafting Tip: Since the stenciled background is soft, cool blue, I colored the drink in vibrant pink tones to make it pop! Cutting out the oval window creates a solid backdrop that prevents the small image from blending into the busy floral pattern.
I popped up the drink image using foam adhesive inside the oval window above the sentiment to add fun dimension and complete the card!
