Making an Impact with Simon Says Stamp June Release: Dynamic “Boom!” Card
Lately, we’ve been having a lot of sudden summer thundershowers with dramatic flashes of lightning. This stormy weather completely inspired my latest project! Today, I am thrilled to share a vibrant, pop-art style card featuring the brand-new Boom stamp set and Big Boom die-cut set from the Simon Says Stamp June release. It’s an energetic, high-contrast design that perfectly captures the excitement of a summer storm. Let’s look at how this striking card came together!
Stenciling the Background: To set the stage for my stormy scene, I used the Simon Says Stamp Stencil SCATTERED STARS ssst121506. I ink-blended over it onto white cardstock using Altenew’s Ocean Waves ink. The scattering of stars creates the perfect explosive, electrical texture for the backdrop.
Stamping and Die-Cutting the Lightning Bolts: For the lightning bolts, I used a clever two-step stamping technique. I stamped the main shapes with vibrant orange ink and layered them with crisp black ink to give them a sharp, shadowed effect. After stamping, I die-cut them and set them aside.
Building the “Boom!” Focal Point: The star of the show is the sentiment explosion in the center. I cut the main “Boom!” text using black cardstock and a beautiful teal-toned Waterfall cardstock. For the explosive burst underneath, I used bright yellow cardstock. To make the entire sentiment pop off the card, I added a black cardstock backdrop layer underneath, giving it a fantastic 3D, comic-book style dimension.
Adding the Sub-Sentiment & Final Assembly: To complete the message, I heat-embossed the supporting sentiment onto black cardstock using white embossing powder and die-cut it into a sleek strip. I layered the stenciled background onto a dark teal card base, arranged the lightning bolts striking across the card, and mounted the layered “Boom!” sentiment right in the center.
I love how the bold contrast of the yellow and teal looks against the crisp stenciled background. It perfectly channels the electrical energy of a good thunderstorm! I hope this project sparks some bright ideas for your next crafting session.
