Spellbinders-Paws in the City – November BetterPress Club Card
Some cards feel like tiny stories pressed onto paper, and today’s project carried me back to a Sunday memory in Paris. The Champs-Élysées was closed to cars that day, open only to people walking freely beneath the soft autumn light. Every Parisian seemed to be out with their dog—so many pups trotting along the grand boulevard that I thought I had walked into a perfect little dog show.
That warm, whimsical scene inspired this card.
For this month’s Spellbinders BetterPress Plate Club, I worked with the Paws in the City plates to create a clean, fashionable city moment.
Pressing the Images
I began by placing the plates onto the BetterPress Chase.
The girl plate was used first, and then I positioned the dog plate beside her—aligning both images precisely using the built-in registration marks on the Platen.
I followed the four classic BetterPress steps:
Place the Press Plate onto the magnetic Chase
Tape the BetterPress card panel onto the Platen
Ink the plate with BetterPress Black Ink
Create the Letterpress Sandwich and run it through a manual die-cutting machine
I pressed the panel twice (girl + dog), and the impression came out beautifully crisp, ready for soft coloring.
Coloring
I used colored pencils to add gentle detail and style:
Red tones for the skirt, shoes, scarf, and beret
Cool grey/black shading for the striped top
Warm yellow-brown tones for the sweet pup walking beside her
The simple palette keeps the scene elegant and modern.
Sentiment & Finishing Touches
The sentiment is from the same BetterPress Plate set.
I hot-foiled it onto black cardstock using Matte Gold foil, then die-cut it for a clean and chic finish.
To add subtle texture, I used the Torn Paper Edges Etched Dies from the Take Note Collection for the top border.
The finished panel is mounted onto deep Anchor Cardstock, grounding the red beautifully.
