Spellbinders-the Ski-son’s Greetings Collection by Simon Hurley

Hello, fellow crafters and winter enthusiasts!

Today is an exciting day as we celebrate the launch of the brand new Ski-son’s Greetings Collection by Simon Hurley for Spellbinders! As someone who, ironically, lives in sunny Florida because I absolutely despise the cold, creating winter-themed cards like these offers a wonderful sense of vicarious enjoyment. It’s like a mini-ski vacation right from my craft desk! This collection truly captures the charm and fun of a snowy getaway, and I’m thrilled to share two cards I’ve made with it.

Ski Lodge Card

This card transports you straight to a cozy ski lodge, nestled among snow-dusted pines.

Background: The base layer of white cardstock was first embossed using the Streamline 3D Embossing Folder from the Ski-son’s Greetings Collection to create the dynamic, sweeping lines reminiscent of freshly groomed ski slopes.

The main elements were meticulously die-cut from various colored cardstocks using the Ski Lodge Etched Dies and assembled with care.

  1. For the pine trees, they were die-cut from Fern and Rainforest colored cardstock. To achieve that perfect snowy effect, I used a brush to splatter them with Spellbinders Splatter White Opaque watercolor, making them look as if they’ve just received a fresh dusting of powder.

  2. A white gel pen was then used to add delicate highlights, such as on the snow-laden roof of the lodge, giving it an extra touch of realism.

The charming snowboarder figure, casually holding his board in front of the lodge, was die-cut using the Hit the Slopes Etched Dies and adhered with foam stickers, giving him a delightful lift and dimension.

The sweet sentiment, “baby it’s cold outside,” was flawlessly created using the Ski-son’s Greetings Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set. It was pressed onto BetterPress Cotton Card Panel with BetterPress Ink in the elegant Elephant color, then precisely die-cut with the coordinating die, and finally attached to the card using foam stickers for added depth.

Skiing and Snowboarding Card

Our second card is all about the thrill of the slopes, capturing the exhilarating spirit of skiing and snowboarding.

Just like the first card, the background was prepared by embossing white cardstock using the Streamline 3D Embossing Folder. This instantly sets the scene with its textured, wintry landscape.

The true stars of this card are the dynamic figures. The graceful skier and the cool snowboarder were meticulously die-cut, assembled, and attached using the Hit the Slopes Etched Dies. They were mounted with foam stickers, making them pop off the card and truly bringing the action to life.

Scattered throughout the scene are supporting pine trees, die-cut using the Ski Lodge Etched Dies. To give them that authentic snow-covered look, they were die-cut from Fern and Rainforest colored cardstock, and then splattered with Spellbinders Splatter White Opaque watercolor using a brush – the same technique used for the first card’s trees.

The celebratory sentiment, “SKI-SON’S GREETINGS,” was crafted using the Ski-son’s Greetings Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set. It was pressed onto a BetterPress Cotton Card Panel with BetterPress Ink in the sophisticated Elephant color, then precisely die-cut with the coordinating die, and adhered to the card with foam stickers, completing this cheerful winter greeting.

Two delightful cards created with the new Ski-son’s Greetings Collection. While I might prefer the warmth of Florida over actual snow, these projects make me feel like I’ve just returned from a fantastic day on the slopes. I hope these cards inspire you to embark on your own creative winter adventures, whether it’s making cards or dreaming of your next cozy getaway! Happy crafting!
