Spellbinders- Tiered Hexagon Pop-up Card Tutorial A2 size

Hello, creative friends!

Today, I’m thrilled to share a project I made using this month’s Spellbinders Club Dies. I was inspired by the incredibly talented UK designer, Sam Calcott, and her brilliant Tiered Hexagon Pop-up Cards. While her cards are a fantastic, large 6×6 size, I wanted to create a version that was more suited for the common A2 card size.

In this project, I’ve made three cards showcasing the versatile pop-up structure. The two outer cards are my A2-sized versions—a vertical (portrait) and a horizontal (landscape) pop-up. The center card, the “Tons of Love” design, is the original 6×6 size. All three feature a delightful underwater aquarium scene!

This project was a blast to create. The layered pop-up structure gives a wonderful sense of depth, perfectly mimicking a real aquarium. I’ve used some beautiful die-cuts to create the aquatic life and plant scenery. The fish, coral, and seaweed are so fun to arrange, and the transparent acetate gives the illusion of water.

Vertical A2 Card

For the vertical A2 card, I created the background using the 3D Embossing Folder (3EOM AUG 25- Underwater Waltz) from the August club.

The charming fish and other elements inside were die-cut from the The Deep Blue Two Small Die Club (DOM-AUG25)set. To add extra dimension, I used a white gel pen to draw highlights on the die-cuts.

The sentiment, “MAKE A SPLASH, IT’S YOUR DAY,” was hot foiled using the Fish Parade -BetterPress Club Plate(BPOM AUG 25) with Moon Dust hot foil, then die-cut and added to the card.

horizontal A2 card

For the horizontal A2 card, the background was created by embossing with this month’s Coral Impression embossing folder and then blending with three shades of blue ink.

The coral reef was die-cut from the Underwater Tunnels die set, the large seaweed and goldfish are from this month’s Large Die Club, and the remaining fish were die-cut from bonus items in this month’s Deluxe Caboodle Club.

The sentiment was heat-embossed with white embossing powder from the Clear Stamp, Die Club, August 25.

6 x 6 Card

The original 6×6 card has a more classic look with beautiful clownfish.

It uses the same product sets as the A2 horizontal card, but the sentiment, “TONS OF LOVE,” was created using the Sending Smiles Sentiments stamp and die set, which was then gold heat embossed before being adhered.

I love how versatile these cards are. You can use this pop-up structure for so many different themes, but an aquarium was the perfect fit to showcase the layers.
