Spellbinders Oh Christmas Stitch Cards — JOY Ornament & Stitched Tree
Hello, crafty friends!
Today I am sharing two Christmas cards I made with Spellbinders’ Oh Christmas Stitch Collection. I love stitching on cards — it adds such a sweet, handmade texture. For these two cards, I used a bright and cheerful color palette of teal, red, and white, and both cards have lots of pretty stitched details and red gems.
JOY Ornament Card
- Background: I embossed a white cardstock panel with the “Vintage Ornaments” 3D Embossing Folder. The raised ornaments and snowflakes add soft texture, so the bright letters stand out nicely on top.
Focal Images:
For the JOY letters, I die-cut the letters from the foil cardstock in the Aquamarine Assorted Treasured Cardstock pack and used those pieces as a backdrop layer. Then I die-cut the letters again from Seaside cardstock, colored them with Pool ink in a soft ombré, and adhered them on top of the foil backdrop, slightly offset, so the shiny aquamarine foil peeks out behind them. For the letter O, I used a stitched ornament from October’s “Oh Joy!” Etched Stitching Dies.
I die-cut the ornament base from Poppy cardstock, and die-cut the shiny layer on top of it from the Ruby Assorted Treasured Cardstock pack. For the center, I die-cut a circle from white cardstock, colored just the edges with a little blue ink, and stitched it with Blue Topaz DMC Light Effects Embroidery Floss, a pretty metallic thread. I finished the center with a red gem from the Red Color Essentials Gems, and die-cut the ornament top from the silver metallic cardstock in the Silver Assorted Treasured Cardstock pack. For the pine bough at the top, I die-cut two boughs from Rainforest cardstock, added a little coloring to them, and adhered them across the top of the card.
Sentiment:
I hot-foiled “SEASON’S GREETINGS” in white on Poppy cardstock with the “Snowflake Kisses Sentiments” Press + Foil Plate & Die Set by Lisa Horton — the same way I made the tree card’s sentiment — die-cut it into a strip, and added it below the JOY letters.
Stitched Christmas Tree Card
- Background: I die-cut Breeze cardstock with October’s “Quilted Etched Dies” by Simon Hurley and then ink-blended the panel with dark Juniper Mist ink. Blending over the die-cut panel turned the soft Breeze color into this rich teal background, and the light blue tree pops so nicely on top of it.
Focal Images:
I die-cut the Christmas tree from October’s “Oh Christmas Stitch” Etched Dies using aqua blue glitter cardstock, and layered the scalloped pieces from top to bottom.
I stitched each white center with Blue Topaz DMC Light Effects Embroidery Floss — the same metallic thread I used on the JOY ornament — and added a red gem in the middle of each layer. For the tree trunk and the star on top, I stitched with gold thread.
- Sentiment:
- I hot-foiled “Season’s Greetings” in white on Poppy cardstock with the “Joyful Christmas Sentiments” Press + Foil Plate & Die Set by Simon Hurley, die-cut it with the coordinating die, and added it at the bottom of the card.
I love how these two cards look together — same stitched style, but one is clean and white and the other is rich and teal. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
