Charming City Holiday Cards with Yana’s City Holiday Addition Collection!

Hello, craft friends!

I am so excited to share three festive holiday cards featuring the new Yana’s City Holiday Addition Collection by Yana Smakula for Spellbinders! This extension adds so many creative possibilities to the original city building dies, allowing you to build grander structures, add cozy mansard roofs, and wrap up your cards with gorgeous holiday elements.

Here is a detailed look at how I created all three cards:

Brick Mansion

For my first card, I created a grand 4-story shaped card by extending the base building and combining the original City Holiday Etched Dies with the new Mansard Roof Etched Dies!

Here is how I constructed this building:

  • Shaped Card Base: I cut a smaller card base to adhere behind the building structure, making the entire house the card itself!

  • First Floor & Accent Lines: I die-cut the original building base from Oceanside cardstock using the City Holiday Etched Dies and trimmed just the first-floor section. I also die-cut the eaves using the Mansard Roof Etched Dies from Oceanside cardstock and layered them on top.

  • Brick Exterior: I die-cut the main building structure from Sicily cardstock and embossed it using the Brick by Brick 3D Embossing Folder to give it a rich, realistic brick texture.

  • Windows & Interior Details: The window frames were die-cut from Oceanside cardstock. Inside the windows, I layered Chiffon cardstock for a warm glow and added cute curtains cut from Blush cardstock.

Roof & Chimneys: The mansard roof structure and window frames on the top floor were cut from Oceanside cardstock. The chimney sections and window trim accents were cut from Sicily cardstock to match the main brick walls.

  • Storefront Sentiment Window: I hot foiled the sentiment onto Indigo cardstock using Matte Gold Foil with the Holiday Hugs Sentiments Press + Foil Plate & Die Set by Yana Smakula, then die-cut it with the window frame die to place inside the storefront.

  • Festive Accents: The wreaths, bows, and front door were all die-cut from Poppy cardstock. To finish off the front door wreath, I added shiny red gem accents for a festive pop!

Cozy Pink Shaped Townhouse

For my second card, I designed a soft pink shaped townhouse topped with a shimmery silver mansard roof for a classic winter feel!

  • Shaped Card Base: Just like the first card, I attached a card base directly behind the house silhouette so the card itself takes the shape of the building.

  • Building & Roof Structure: The main building structure was cut from Blush cardstock using the City Holiday Etched Dies. To create the top level, I die-cut the mansard roof from Silver Metallic cardstock using the Mansard Roof Etched Dies and layered it over the 3rd story.

  • Doors, Steps & Chimneys: The front door was cut from Oceanside cardstock, and the doorstep and roofline details were die-cut from Anchor cardstock. The chimneys were cut from Sicily cardstock.

  • Windows & Curtains: I added curtains die-cut from Sicily cardstock inside the second-story windows to complement the warm color palette.

  • Festive Greenery & Accents: The wreaths and bows on the front door and windows were die-cut from Fern and Cranberry cardstock to bring lush holiday contrast to the soft pink facade.

Wrapped Up A2 Pop-Up Building Card

My third card is an A2-sized card featuring a 3D pop-up element that gives the building wonderful dimension off the card base!

  • Card Base & Snow Hill: I used Windy cardstock for the A2 card base. Before mounting the building, I die-cut snow-covered hills using the original City Holiday Etched Dies set and adhered them to the bottom of the card base.

  • Building Structure & Light Effect: The building base was die-cut from Oceanside cardstock using the original City Holiday set. All the door frames and window trims were cut from clean white cardstock. To create the illusion of warm light glowing from within, I ink-shaded white cardstock backings with soft yellow ink behind each window.

Curtains & Storefront: The curtains were die-cut from Teal Topaz cardstock. Inside the lower window, I added a Christmas tree die-cut from Fern cardstock and decorated it with red and green crystal gems.

  • Wrapped Up Details & Ivy: Using the Wrapped Up City Holiday Etched Dies by Yana Smakula, I die-cut the giant decorative ribbon wrap and bow out of Poppy cardstock. Then, I added cascading ivy die-cut from Rainforest cardstock along the roofline and side.

  •

  • Pop-Up Assembly & Finishes: I mounted the house onto the background using an accordion-style pop-up element behind the building for 3D depth. Next to the building, I added a street lamp die-cut from Black and Silver Metallic cardstock.

  • Sentiment: The sentiment was hot foiled in Matte Gold Foil onto white cardstock using the Holiday Hugs Sentiments Press + Foil Plate & Die Set by Yana Smakula, die-cut, and popped up with foam tape.
