Vibrant Desert Sunset Thank You Card with Simon Says Stamp Desert Horizon Die
Hello, crafty friends! Today, I’m excited to share a thank you card featuring a dramatic desert sunset, created with the new Desert Horizon Wafer Die from the Simon Says Stamp July release. Working on this card felt like assembling a colorful paper puzzle, with almost 80% of the creative process dedicated to custom ink blending to bring out the rich, three-dimensional layers of the desert!
Die-Cut & Ink Blend the Desert Layers:
Die-cut the landscape using the Simon Says Stamp Desert Horizon Wafer Die (s625md Every Happiness).
To achieve realistic depth and dimension across the sand dunes and mountains, I relied heavily on Altenew Mini Cube Ink Pads. Altenew inks are my absolute go-to because of their amazing color selection—especially how their ink families come thoughtfully grouped in 4 color-coordinated light-to-dark tones. This 4-step gradient system makes smooth shading and building realistic 3D depth practically effortless!
Using blending brushes, blend a rich spectrum of brown and earthy tones onto each individual die-cut piece, shading the edges to make the desert layers pop against one another.
Blend the Sunset Sky & Assemble:
Blend vibrant purple, pink, and glowing orange inks for the top sky layers and sun to build a fiery desert sunset background.
Piece all the custom-colored die-cut layers together like a puzzle onto your card panel.
Create the Cool Contrast Sentiment:
Die-cut the “Thanks” sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Paper Cut Word Mix 1 Wafer Dies (s726sd) out of white cardstock.
Ink blend a fresh blue ombre gradient onto the letters to create a striking cool contrast against the warm, fiery colors of the desert sunset.
Layer the sentiment over its black shadow die-cut and mount it with foam tape for extra dimension.
