Playful Mischief: Highlighting Yana’s Christmas Cats Collection

Hello, crafty friends! Today is a very exciting day because Spellbinders is launching its highly anticipated July new releases! Among all the incredible new goodies, I completely fell in love with Yana’s Christmas Cats Collection by Yana Smakula.

As a dog owner, I haven’t personally experienced the chaotic joys of living with a feline friend. However, seeing all the hilarious videos on social media, I know just how incredibly curious and mischievous cats can be—especially around the holidays! This card perfectly captures one of those classic moments: a curious kitty climbing all over the Christmas tree, grabbing at the shiny ornaments, and causing the whole tree to tip over!

Here is how I brought this playful, chaotic holiday scene to life.

Creating the Elegant Background: I started with a piece of crisp white cardstock and ran it through my die-cutting machine using the stunning A2 Ornate Molded Frame 3D Embossing Folder by Yana Smakula. To make the center pop and give it an icy, atmospheric glow, I used a blending brush to softly apply a pool-colored ink right in the middle of the debossed frame.

Building the Tree Scene: Next, I die-cut the Christmas tree, its tipping pot, and all the festive decorations using the Christmas Cats Accessories Etched Dies by Yana Smakula. I assembled the tree with its sparkly gold ornaments and tangled Christmas lights to accentuate the tilting motion.

  • Adding the Star of the Show: I die-cut the adorable striped cat using the Christmas Cats Etched Dies by Yana Smakula, complete with a tiny red Santa hat, and placed it right on top of the falling tree as if it was caught mid-action.

Foil & Finish: For the sentiment, I turned to this month’s “Festive Forest” Press & Foil Plate (from the Press & Foil Club). I hot-foiled the “MAKE IT memorable” sentiment with crisp white foil onto poppy red cardstock, die-cut it, and attached it to the bottom using foam stickers for a dimensional finish.
