Double the Mischief: More Fun with Yana’s Christmas Cats Collection

Hello again, crafty friends! I’m back with another playful holiday card featuring the wonderful new Yana’s Christmas Cats Collection by Yana Smakula from Spellbinders. If you thought one cat around a Christmas tree was chaotic, today we have a dynamic duo double-teaming the festive decorations!

This scene captures the ultimate holiday comedy: one kitty looking completely innocent right after knocking the tree over, and another diving headfirst into the branches. It’s a hilarious and relatable peek into a cat-owner’s Christmas, and I had so much fun building this cozy, warm scene.

Here is a breakdown of how I made this card.

Embossing a Warm Background: For this card, I wanted a warm, cozy base, so I chose a sheet of Beeswax cardstock. I ran it through my die-cutting machine with the gorgeous A2 Herringbone Décor 3D Embossing Folder by Yana Smakula to create a beautifully textured, wood-paneled look that grounds the entire scene.

  • Assembling the Fallen Tree: I used the Christmas Cats Accessories Etched Dies by Yana Smakula to cut out the main Christmas tree, its overturned pot, and the adorable festive hats.

  • Custom Coloring the Ornaments: To make the holiday lights and ornaments truly pop, I die-cut them from white cardstock first. Then, I took my markers to color-code each individual bulb and bulb base one by one, giving the fallen strands a bright, glossy finish.

  • Crafting the Playful Kitties: Using the Christmas Cats Etched Dies by Yana Smakula, I die-cut two distinct cats using a warm palette of Carrot, Fawn, and Acorn cardstock. I tucked one under the tree pot wearing a festive Santa hat, and arranged the other sprawling playfully across the top of the pine branches.

  • Foil & Sentiment Finish: For the greeting, I chose the Meowy Christmas Sentiments Press + Foil Plates & Die Set by Yana Smakula. I hot-foiled the “LET THE Merry BEGIN” sentiment using crisp white foil on Poppy cardstock, popped it out with the coordinating die, and attached it near the top left using foam stickers for just the right amount of dimension.

Thank you so much for joining me for day two of this adorable cat-filled release! This collection is just too fun to resist, and I love how the warm yellow background contrasts with the bright holiday reds and greens. I hope this gives you some fun ideas for your upcoming holiday cards! Until next time, happy crafting!
