A Towering Tulip Birthday: Combining Windmills, Florals, and Elegant Gold Frames

The third project in the Yana’s Tulips Collection series brings a touch of Dutch charm to our crafting tables. Featuring the magnificent Windmills and Tulips Press + Foil Plate, this card is all about creating a sense of scale and celebration. With stunning Matte Gold foiling, intricate stencil work, and a luxurious gold postage-edge frame, this birthday card is ready to make anyone’s big day bloom beautifully.

Glimmer Hot Foiling the Scene:

The detailed windmill and tulip field scene is hot foiled onto smooth white cardstock using Matte Gold Hot Foil. The muted gold provides an elegant outline for the next step.

Stencil Color Blending:

This bundle comes with coordinating stencils that make adding color a breeze. Using various inks, I blended vibrant pinks, yellows, and greens onto the tulips, and a contrasting teal for the water and sky. The windmills were given a warm orange-brown tone.

Perfectly Imperfect Sentiment (and a Crafty Save!):

After a minor, last-minute coloring issue on one of the windmills (we all have those days!), I searched for the perfect solution. The large sentiment, “Wishing you a birthday that blooms as beautifully as a tulip in spring,” from the Bouquet of Hugs Sentiments Press + Foil Plate & Die Set was precisely what I needed. Foiled in Matte Gold on black cardstock and die-cut, it now sits perfectly centered, anchoring the design and making the overall scene feel complete and intentional.

The Postage Frame Finish: To give the card a unique, decorative border, I die-cut Postage Edge Rectangles Etched Dies from luxurious Brushed Gold Cardstock. This ornate, dotted frame adds sophistication and flawlessly matches the other gold accents.

Final Assembly: The layered focal panel is matted onto a matching gold card base and then popped up within the postage frame using foam adhesive for dimensional depth. The entire card feels like a miniature framed masterpiece.

This project is a great reminder that sometimes, crafting challenges lead us to our best designs. The final card, with its towering sentiment and detailed scene, is one I’m now incredibly proud of. It’s the perfect, sophisticated birthday wish for any friend who loves flowers (and a bit of unexpected creativity!).

Happy Crafting, Heejung
