Timeless Romance: Classic Mouse in Black & White
Welcome back! For my third project featuring the Classic Mouse Love Collection, I decided to go with a classic black-and-white theme for our iconic duo, letting small pops of red tell the story of a “stolen heart.”
The Textured Heart Backdrop
Die-Cutting: I started by die-cutting a large heart from Blush cardstock using the Pieced Heart Etched Dies (from the Just Sayin’ Collection).
3D Embossing: To add incredible texture, I ran that heart through my machine using the Simon Hurley Sending Hugs 3D Embossing Folder.
Adding Depth: After embossing, I lightly blended ink around the edges of the raised hearts to create shading, making the pattern look even more dimensional and “puffy.”
Classic Characters & Romantic Details
The Duo: I die-cut the Steamboat Willie Duo characters using a crisp black, white, and grey palette. This gives them that authentic vintage animation look.
The “Pops” of Color: I used the Classic Mouse Love Etched Dies to create the vibrant red accents—the single rose, the heart decoration on the hat, and that sweet heart-shaped chocolate box. These small details really stand out against the monochrome characters.
The Sentiment: I used the Classic Mouse Love Sentiments Press + Foil Plate. I foiled “You’ve stolen my heart” onto black cardstock with Matte Silver Hot Foil and die-cut it to match the elegant feel of the card.
There is something so romantic about the classic Steamboat Willie aesthetic paired with soft pinks and bold reds. I hope this inspired you to try a limited color palette on your next project!
