Vibrant Summer Birthday Wishes: Cascading Coneflowers
Hello, crafty friends! Summer is in full swing, and I am so excited to share a vibrant, cheerful birthday card featuring the brand new June release from Spellbinders: the Cascading Coneflower Collection by Simon Hurley.
Coneflowers are one of my absolute favorite summer blooms, and this collection captures their beauty so perfectly. For today’s card, I wanted to combine bright, warm sunset tones with a fresh, textured background to make the florals truly pop.
Here is how I brought this summery birthday card to life!
Creating the Textured Background To start, I chose a beautiful soft blue cardstock (Seaside) for my background panel. To give it a playful, textured look that mimics a clear summer sky, I ran it through my die-cutting machine using the Cascading Dots 3D Embossing Folder by Simon Hurley.
Adding the Postage Frame Next, I wanted to create a neat focal area for my flowers. I used the Bayfair Nested Postage Labels and Tag Etched Dies to cut a postage-edged frame from crisp white cardstock. I popped this frame up on the embossed background using foam adhesive to create some wonderful depth and dimension.
Die-Cutting and Blending the Flowers Now for the stars of the show! I used the gorgeous Wild Coneflowers Etched Dies by Simon Hurley to cut out all the floral pieces:
Stems and Leaves: Cut from Rainforest cardstock.
Flower Petals: Cut from Beeswax (yellow) cardstock.
To make the flowers look realistic and vibrant, I used blending brushes to add warm orange and red inks to the base of the yellow petals, creating a stunning sunset gradient. I also blended some green ink onto the leaves and stems to give them more life and dimension. After coloring, I assembled the flowers and arranged them beautifully inside the frame.

4: Adding the Sentiment For the greeting, I chose the bold and beautiful Big & Bold Sentiments Etched Dies by Simon Hurley. I cut the shadow layer from black cardstock and the main text from white cardstock. This classic black-and-white combo ensures the “Happy Birthday” message stands out perfectly against the colorful background.
Once the sentiment was glued down, this cheerful summer card was complete!
Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope this bright coneflower card brings a little sunshine to your day and inspires your next crafting session. Happy crafting!
