Spotlight Watercoloring with Yana’s Tulips & Daffodils
The Yana’s Tulips Collection by Spellbinders is a masterclass in floral elegance. In this project, the Tulips and Daffodils Press + Foil Plate takes center stage, combined with a sophisticated “spotlight” watercolor technique. By focusing the color within a crisp gold frame, this card achieves a balanced look that is both modern and timelessly beautiful.
BetterPress Foundation:
The process begins by pressing the Tulips and Daffodils image onto Spellbinders Watercolor Cardstock using BetterPress Black Ink. The deep, crisp lines of the press plate provide the perfect outline for watercoloring.
Framing and Masking:
Two frames are die-cut from Brushed Gold Cardstock using the Hero Arts Nesting Rectangle Infinity Dies. To ensure the coloring remains strictly within the focal area, Best Ever Craft Tape is used to mask off the paper outside where the smaller frame will sit.
Watercoloring:
With the mask in place, vibrant watercolors are applied to the tulips and daffodils. This localized coloring creates a striking contrast against the clean, uncolored floral outlines on the rest of the panel.
Assembly:
Once the paint is dry, the masking tape is carefully removed, and the Gold Frames are adhered directly over the colored section, instantly adding a luxurious, dimensional border.
Sentiments and Finishing Touches:
The sentiment from the Bouquet of Hugs Sentiments Press + Foil Plate & Die Set is created by Matte Gold Hot Foiling onto black cardstock. It is then die-cut and popped up with foam stickers. For a final touch of elegance, Fashion Gold Embellishments are scattered around the bouquet.
This card demonstrates how a simple masking technique and a touch of gold can transform a classic floral stamp into a sophisticated work of art. The spotlight effect allows the beauty of the BetterPress lines to shine while highlighting the artist’s touch in the watercolor details.
