Step Up with the Spellbinders March Large Die Club
Happy Friday! Today’s project features the Spellbinders March 2026 Large Die of the Month, titled “Classic Kicks.” I wanted to create a vibrant, floral-filled sneaker card with a deep, textured background to make the pastel colors truly shine. This card is a perfect way to encourage someone who “always steps up.”
The Background: I started with Oceanside cardstock and embossed it using the Solar Flare 3D Embossing Folder. To add depth and a dramatic spotlight effect, I carefully blended Navy ink around the edges after embossing, which makes the radiating pattern stand out beautifully.
The Sneaker: The classic high-top was die-cut from Seaside cardstock, giving it a soft, cool tone. For the laces, I used Tutu cardstock—a lovely pastel pink that contrasts perfectly with the blue tones of the shoe.
Floral Details:
I filled the sneaker with a bouquet of die-cut flowers. To give them a soft, realistic look, I used a blending brush to add a gentle pink shade to the petals, creating a delicate gradient.
The Sentiment:
For the message, I used this month’s Clear Stamp & Die of the Month. I stamped “YOU ALWAYS STEP UP” on Black cardstock using Versamark ink, applied White Embossing Powder, and heat-set it for a crisp, high-contrast finish.
Finishing Touches:
To add a bit of luxury and shine, I finished the card with Gold Smooth Discs Color Essentials Sequins, scattering them around the floral arrangement to catch the light.
The combination of the dark, inked background and the soft pastel sneaker creates such a striking balance. Whether it’s for a friend or a mentor, this “Classic Kicks” set is a wonderful way to show your appreciation.
