Exploring the Spellbinders Summer Solstice Garden Collection!

Hello, creative friends! Today, I’m thrilled to share three new cards I’ve created using the beautiful May Summer Solstice Garden Collection by Susan Tierney-Cockburn from Spellbinders. This collection is stunning and perfect for creating gorgeous floral designs. Let’s dive into each card!

Card 1: Elegant Anemone Wishes

This card features a striking combination of textured background and delicate florals, all brought together with a touch of shimmer.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Prepare the Background: I started by creating a textured background using the Diamond Knit – Stitching Die of the Month. I love the subtle yet intricate pattern it adds!
  2. Hot Foil the Sentiment: Next, I used the Summer Solstice Garden Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set with Matte Gold Hot Foil to create the “thinking of you” sentiment. The matte gold adds such a sophisticated touch.
  3. Die Cut and Assemble Anemones: I then die-cut the various pieces for the Anemones using the Anemone Etched Dies. I carefully layered and shaped the petals to give them a realistic, dimensional look.
  4. Add Finishing Touches: To complete the anemones and add even more depth, I adhered black enamel dots to the centers of the flowers. This really brings out the detail and makes them pop!

Assemble the Card: Once the elements were ready, I arranged the assembled anemones and the foiled sentiment on the textured background, adhering them with foam adhesive for added dimension. Finally, I added a few gold gems to complement the sentiment.

Card 2: Vibrant Cosmos with a Poetic Touch

For this card, I focused on vibrant colors and a touch of literary elegance, featuring a quote from William Carlos Williams.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Create the Foiled Background: I took a piece of indigo cardstock and used the Script Text BetterPress Plate with Matte Gold Hot Foil to create the beautiful, subtle script background. The gold foil really pops against the indigo!
  2. Add Postage Edge: To define the background, I used the Postage Edge Rectangles Etched Dies to create a decorative edge around the foiled panel.
  3. Die Cut and Color Cosmos: Using the Cosmos Etched Dies, I die-cut the flower elements from white cardstock. I then used blending brushes to add vibrant pink color to the petals, creating a lovely gradient. The yellow centers were also added.
  4. Hot Foil the Quote: For the sentiment, I used the same Summer Solstice Garden Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set as in the first card. I hot foiled the quote onto white cardstock with gold foil and then carefully adhered it to the card.

Assemble the Card: I arranged the colored cosmos flowers and the foiled quote onto the indigo background. I used foam adhesive to give the flowers extra lift and dimension.

Card 3: Whimsical Petunias and a Hummingbird

This card celebrates nature, featuring a beautiful embossed background and a hand-colored hummingbird.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Emboss the Background: I started by embossing a white card panel using the Petunia Cascade 3D Embossing Folder. This creates a wonderful textured foundation for the card.
  2. Die Cut and Color Petunias: I die-cut the petunia flowers using the Petunia and Hummingbird Etched Dies. I then used markers to color the petunias vibrant shades of purple, bringing them to life.
  3. Die Cut and Watercolor Hummingbird: Next, I die-cut the adorable hummingbird using the same Petunia and Hummingbird Etched Dies. This was my favorite part – I used watercolors to give the hummingbird a beautiful, iridescent look.
  4. Emboss the Sentiment: On a strip of black cardstock, I stamped the “BIRTHDAY HUGS” sentiment from the Sending Smiles Sentiments Clear Stamp & Die Set using VersaMark ink. I then applied white embossing powder and heat-embossed it for a crisp, raised sentiment.
  5. Assemble the Card: Finally, I arranged the colored petunias, the watercolor hummingbird, and the embossed sentiment onto the embossed background. I used foam adhesive for all the elements to ensure they stand out.

I hope you enjoyed this detailed look at my latest creations using the Spellbinders Summer Solstice Garden Collection! Which card is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
