Pastel & Pretty: A Refreshing Florida-Style “Summerween” Ghost Card!

Whenever I used to make Halloween cards, I almost always reached for the traditional color palette—orange, dark purple, black, and spooky green. Honestly, Halloween hasn’t been high on my list of favorites lately, especially now that my son is all grown up and done dressing in costumes!

But working with the new Hero Arts Summerween Collection completely changed my mind. Ditching the gloomy dark tones for bright, cheerful pastels made crafting this card so much fun! It feels like the absolute perfect Halloween style for living here in sunny Florida.

Here is how I created this soft and colorful Summerween card:

Card Background & Heat Embossed Sentiment:

I used a soft, clean Windy cardstock as my card panel base. At the bottom, I stamped the sentiment from the Ghoul Summer Stamp Set using black pigment ink, covered it with clear embossing powder, and melted it with my heat tool for a glossy, raised black finish (“we all scream for SUMMERWEEN”).

  • Die-Cutting the Ghost Duo:

    The stars of the show are these adorable ghost besties, created using the Hero Arts Free Spirit Die Set.

  • Decorating the Ghosts:

    • Floral Ghost: For the ghost on the left, I stenciled a colorful pattern using the Hero Arts Flower Power Layering Stencil Set onto white paper and then die-cut the ghost shape out of it.

    • Mulberry Floral Ghost: For the ghost on the right, I die-cut the body out of Mulberry cardstock, then layered cute little die-cut flowers made from Waterfall and Beeswax cardstock on top.

Assembly:

I adhered both pastel ghosts right above the crisp heat-embossed sentiment to complete this simple, charming, and sunny card!
