Day & Night in the Whimsical Village

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to share two vibrant, fairytale-inspired cards today using the gorgeous Whimsical Village Collection by Vicky Papaioannou from Spellbinders. I decided to capture two different times of the day—a bright, cheerful daytime scene and a magical, starry night scene.

Here is how each card came together!

Daytime Whimsical Village Card

The Sunny Background

For the background, I embossed a piece of white cardstock using the Whimsical Skies 3D Embossing Folder. To give the sky some dimension, I lightly blended soft color inks over the embossed swirls and finished it with a playful splatter of blue ink.

Pastel Houses & Florals

I die-cut the houses from the Whimsical Houses Etched Dies using a sweet pastel color palette. To add hand-drawn personality, I used a white gel pen to draw custom brick patterns and whimsy details on the walls. Behind the houses, I added oversized, magical flowers die-cut using the Whimsical Blooms Etched Dies.

The Bright Hill & Final Details

I created a vibrant grassy hill using the Color Block Scenic Scape Etched Dies cut from Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock. On the hill, I stamped “wishing you brighter days” from the Whimsical Wishes Clear Stamp Set. To complete the scene, I added a smiling sun and a cute little puppy from the Village Companions Etched Dies.

Nighttime Whimsical Village Card

The Starry Midnight Sky

For the night version, I ran deep Cosmic Sky cardstock through the Whimsical Skies 3D Embossing Folder to create a dramatic, swirling midnight atmosphere. I then splattered the background with gold metallic watercolor to look like a galaxy of twinkling stars.

Cozy Houses & Moonlit Hills

The houses were die-cut from pastel cardstocks and detailed with a white gel pen to look like cozy homes glowing in the dark. For the landscape, I die-cut a snowy, rolling hill from soft Fog cardstock using the Color Block Scenic Scape Etched Dies. I stamped the cozy sentiment “no place like home” using the Whimsical Wishes Clear Stamp Set.

Nighttime Companions

To finish this magical night scene, I used the Village Companions Etched Dies to add a glowing crescent yellow moon, fluffy white clouds floating in front of it, and a sleek black cat sitting peacefully on the hill.

Whether you prefer the bright, sunny optimism of the daytime village or the cozy, starry magic of the night, this collection makes it so much fun to mix and match elements! Which version is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
