Where Is the Cake? Spellbinders Chompster Birthday Cards
Hello, crafty friends!
Today I am sharing two super cute birthday cards I made with Spellbinders products. Both cards feature the sweet little monster Chompster, and he is very busy eating treats in both of them. They made me smile so much while I was making them, and I hope they make you smile too!
Β
Fridge Pop-Up Card
Background:
I made the base of this pop-up card with May’s “Spell It Out Fridge” Large Die of the Month from Spellbinders. I die-cut the fridge door from Poppy cardstock, so the closed card looks like a bright red fridge.
Then I decorated the door with cute little fridge notes and magnets, and added the most important part β alphabet letters spelling out “WHERE IS THE CAKE?” I wanted it to make you wonder if there is really no cake inside, and what you will find when you open it.
Focal Images:
When you open the card, Chompster pops up, already eating the cake! I made him with the “Chompster” Etched Dies. This die is not sold on its own β it comes in the “Just Add Cake” Birthday Cardmaking Kit, so you need the kit to get him.
I die-cut him from white cardstock and colored him with Pool ink to give him his soft color and a little dimension. For his propeller hat, I used the new “Top It Off” Etched Dies and die-cut the pieces from Cosmic Sky, Rainforest, and Saffron cardstock. I die-cut his glasses from Poppy cardstock, and then I added the braces on his teeth and the slice of chocolate cake he is holding from the new “One More Bite” Etched Dies. The braces make me smile every time I look at him!
- Sentiment: Under Chompster, I added a “Happy Birthday” sentiment. I BetterPressed it and die-cut it with the “Heirloom Words” Press + Foil Plate & Die Set by Frank Garcia, then attached it below him to finish the inside of the card.
Make a Wish Card
Background:
- For this card, I started with a soft panel of Chiffon cardstock as the background. It is a very light, gentle color, so the purple Chompster really stands out on top of it.
Focal Images:
I die-cut Chompster with the “Chompster” Etched Dies from Lavender cardstock, and I used Indigo cardstock for the inside of his big open mouth. His hat is from the new “Top It Off” Etched Dies β I die-cut it from Seaside and Waterfall cardstock, and I cut the ribbon pieces for the hat from Bellini and Coral cardstock.
His glasses are part of the Chompster die set, and I die-cut them from gold metallic cardstock so they shine a little. To make him look like he is happily eating in a greedy, cute way, I put a donut in one hand and a chocolate bar in the other hand, both from the new “One More Bite” Etched Dies. I attached everything with foam adhesive, so the whole card has nice dimension.
- Sentiment: Under Chompster, I added a “Make a Wish” sentiment. I hot foiled it with rainbow foil using the “Birthday Sentiments” Press + Foil Plate & Die Set by Simon Hurley, then die-cut it and attached it below him. The rainbow shine changes color in the light, and it is so pretty with the purple monster.
Thank you so much for stopping by today. I had so much fun dressing up Chompster two different ways, and I hope these cards gave you a little smile too.
Happy Crafting,
