A Peek-Through Christmas Window Card

Hello, crafty friends! Today, I’m thrilled to share an interactive, double-layered window card featuring Yana’s Christmas Cats Collection by Yana Smakula for Spellbinders.

I wanted to create the feeling of peeking into a cozy, warm home from the frosty outside on Christmas Eve. By combining two card bases, a clear window sheet, and layered die-cuts, this card creates a fun “peek-a-boo” effect when closed and opens up to reveal a heartwarming scene inside!

Here is how I constructed this interactive window card step-by-step.

  • Building the Double-Fold Base & Exterior Wall: I constructed a double card base by joining two white cardstock bases, creating a sturdy foundation with double layers for writing a message inside. On the front flap, I die-cut an arched window using the Christmas Cats Window View Etched Dies by Yana Smakula. To make the exterior brick wall, I die-cut the same window out of Fog cardstock, textured it with the Brick by Brick 3D Embossing Folder, and adhered it over the front flap.

  •

  • Creating the Glass Window & Curtains: To assemble a realistic window, I die-cut two window frames. I sandwiched a sheet of Glimmer Specialty Clear Film between them to act as real glass pane, with one frame on the front and one on the back for a clean finish. Then, I added rich Poppy cardstock curtains behind the glass, framing the interior view.

  •

Crafting the Warm Interior Scene: Inside the card, I blended warm yellow ink in the center to create an inviting, glowing ambient light. I assembled the Christmas tree, colorful wrapped gifts, and adorable cats using the Christmas Cats Etched Dies and Christmas Cats Accessories Etched Dies by Yana Smakula.

Clever Finishing Detail (Pro Tip!): The little tabby cat climbing on the outside window sill can be seen from both the front and when you open the card! To ensure he looks great from every angle, I made sure to add a matching Santa hat die-cut to his back side as well, so no bare die-cuts show from behind the glass.

Foil & Sentiment: For the greetings, I used the Meowy Christmas Sentiments Press + Foil Plates & Die Set by Yana Smakula. I hot-foiled two sentiments in crisp white foil on Poppy cardstock—placing “HAVE A paw-some CHRISTMAS” across the exterior window pane, and “MERRY cat-mas” inside near the top of the tree.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Interactive cards like this take a little extra planning, but seeing the cozy scene come to life through the window makes it so rewarding. I hope this inspires you to try a peek-through window card for your holiday greetings this year! Until next time, happy crafting!
