I have to admit, I’m not exactly a master chef, but I absolutely adore retro-themed dishes. My home is filled with all sorts of retro casserole bowls, so when I saw this collection, I was thrilled!!
Here’s a look at what I created:
You're Not Old, You're Retro" Horizontal Bowl Card
I die-cut several of the casserole dishes in vibrant retro colors and arranged them horizontally.
The die set comes with unique patterns for each casserole bowl size, but I chose a few of my favorites to create this card. I die-cut the casserole dishes in vibrant retro colors using Spellbinders Color Essentials Cardstock and arranged them horizontally.
I selected the colors of the bowls as follows: Saffron, Blue Spruce, Carrot, and Rainforest Card Stock. For the spoon, I chose Acorn Card Stock.
I Made This For You" Shelf Card
This card showcases the versatility of the Hero Arts On the Shelf Clear stamp and die set. I personally love the combination of green and blue spruce colors, which is what inspired the palette for this card
I stamped the images in black and colored them with markers, then die-cut them with the coordinating dies.
To add dimension, I attached the shelves and some of the dishes with foam stickers and foam tape. Other dishes were adhered directly, creating varying heights between the elements for an even more 3D effect.
The “I made this for you” sentiment makes it a perfect handmade gift.
"Mixing Up Some Fun" Cabinet Card
This card features the Hero Arts Classic Cabinet Die Set. My mother-in-law loves and collects the Fiesta series, and thanks to her, I have a few pieces in the blue color scheme. It’s a dream of mine to have shelves filled with all my favorite dishes, so that’s what inspired this design.
I used this fantastic die set to create a charming kitchen cabinet, complete with shelves filled with colorful dishes, a stand mixer, and even a little plant.
I used the Hero Arts Woodgrain Dieto create a realistic wooden floor, and then I added some shading with a blending brush to give it a sense of perspective. The colorful dishes themselves were die-cut from primary colored cardstock, specifically Poppy, Cosmic Sky, Beeswax, and Blue Spruce cardstock. After die-cutting, I used a white gel pen to draw patterns on them, making them even more vibrant and playful. The sentiment was heat embossed on black cardstock with white embossing powder for a crisp, clean look. I especially love how the “mixing up some fun” sentiment perfectly complements the kitchen theme.
I had so much fun playing with the Hero Arts Retro Kitchen Collection, and I can’t wait to share more details about each card on my blog! I’ll be saving the fifth card from this collection for a separate post, where I’ll include a full tutorial on how I made it!
